Candle ambiance

Good afternoon crafty people,

Today I want to show you a quick tutorial of how I created a candle from a upcycled jar!

If you remember about a month-and-a-half I was a participant in a blog hop for stencil girl.  I created an awesome elephant Mosaic in blacks and purples! (You can see the full tutorial here

After it had been sitting on my end table for a while I thought it might need some ambiance with it so I created this!

I started with a plain jar that hubby threw the lid away for (always upcycling) and mod podge and food coloring! Just pour some mod podge and a few drops of food coloring into the jar and swirl it around! Turn it upside down on some newspaper and after it dries put it in the oven for about 30 minutes at 225 degrees!

Now I really do like the look of the clear glass but I was going for another look.

After pulling it out of the oven I let it sit for a while and then I took a spray bottle filled with water and my looking glass spray paint and spritzed the jar with the water and then spritzed some of the glass paint. I also just ran my fingernails across the jar while it was still somewhat wet to give it some openings. And this is what you get!

After it completely dried I plopped a candle inside the jar and set it next to my mosaic for a nice glow!

Pretty awesome, right?  I hope you've enjoyed my quick tutorial and please leave me a comment and let me know what you think!

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to keep following my blog for future tutorials!

Have a great day - Brenda

AMP Skull Candle

Good morning and welcome to another project using the Amazing Molding Putty.  If you missed my first tutorial using this stuff, click here.  Since I've had this stuff I have made some amazing things but this is one of my favorite tuts.  Now I did not use the Molding Putty for the first project, but the second one I did so keep reading.
I started by melting some candle wax in my pot
all melted....
Then I cut my candle wicks to the desired length of the mold
and poured my wax into the mold
I put them in the freezer and they were ready in 10 minutes
I laid my wick on one side of my candled skull
added a bit of wax ontop of it
and squished the two pieces together
and created a tiny skull candle.
3D skull candle.
another look
Here I made a mold of Winnie the Pooh's face
with the Amazing Mold Putty
melted down some old candles I had
Poured my wax into the mold
again, put it in the freezer for 10 minutes
here is one half
laid my wick again onto the one side of the half
and covered it with some more wax
to create my 3D Winnie the Pooh candle
another look

Now I do NOT recommend to let these candles burn by themselves.  I think it would be cute to have the candle on a birthday cake or Halloween cupcake more for decoration, but it's still a pretty neat idea.  I hope I've inspired you to create something with the Amazing Mold Putty cuz the possibilities are endless.  If you'd like to see more of my creations, click here and I will see you again soon.  Hugs, Brenda

Designs on Cloud 9

For the hop today, I've created 2 projects.  For the first one I started with this plain candle that I got at the Dollar Tree:

I wrapped the candle with some brown cardstock that I had inked, glimmer misted and crumpled to make it look like leather and wrapped a silver ribbon around it.
Then I created a rosette
I wanted to give the rosette a bit of glitter and found using the Alene's tacky glue worked great.  I'm sure you can also use some plain white glue, but this is what I had on hand.
I just rolled the rosette in the glue ...
(Pictures are from a previous rosette I had made)
and then rolled it in some glitter.
Look at the sparkly tips.  It's beautiful
Then I created a tag and for the life of me I could not find
my "give thanks" stamp, so I hand wrote the sentiment.
(not very happy with that, but I wanted to get the candle done)
I added a leaf button to the center of the rosette
and here is the finished candle.
So now I loved making this rosette, so I decided to glam up a lovely home decor grouping that I have, but it was just so plain.  It needed something.
These mirrors were purchased at a local thrift store and I painted them with some
gold paint and added the etching to read BE LIE VE.
My neighbor lady (who seems to give me a lot of stuff)
gave me this lovely ironwork thingy.  I just love it, but it lacked
some umph and I needed a redo on it.

Then I created a bunch of these lovely rosettes

Didn't they just turned out so nicely?
Now, I used my home made repositionable glue dots and attached them to the wood and the greenery.  When I no longer want this grouping I can just take the rosettes off and reuse them on a layout or card and I can redo my greens also.  I'm thinking maybe some glittery snowflakes for the Christmas Season...
Now doesn't this just look so much nicer?  I love how it turned out.
I am the last stop for the hop and I hope you've enjoyed my projects.
My blog candy?  Well, I will make you one of these candles I made at the beginning of this post with a rosette.  Just leave me a comment and tell me what your favorite season is...Please become a follower if you aren't already; like me on Facebook or follow me on twitter.  Sign up to receive my emails on the right sidebar.  Leave me a comment for each entry separately to gain more chances to win.  I will draw a winner for ALL of my monthly drawings on October 3rd, so that gives you plenty of time to leave comments and send your friends over to take a peak.
Here's a list of the entire hop, in case you get lost along the way or want to revisit anyone -- I've included BOTH days of the hop so you'll be sure not to miss a THING!!
