The Master's (magnets) at Anything but a Card Challenge #47

Good morning friends,

Welcome to another installation of Anything But a Card Challenge #47.  This month's challenge is all about the Masters!  When I first read that I got excited because I thought we were doing a challenge about Golf, you know the Master's Tournament.  Yeah, I got Golf on the brain because the season has begun!  Well, it wasn't so, instead we were to create something from the Master "Artists" as inspiration.  Oi, I cannot paint and got stuck on that idea, so I was having a hard time with this challenge.  I voiced my expression in the group and a team mate came to the rescue.  Thanks Elaine!  She provided me with this picture from Picasso

and with that, a project was born.  Let's get started:

Now you all know I love creating with the Amazing Casting Products and with that being said I have lots and lots of resin pieces, but I also have just as much resin paper so to say.  When I over mix my Amazing Casting Resin I create extra resin pieces, but sometimes I just create resin paper.  You can mix up your resin and pour it out on some bakers paper in a thin layer and let it harden, or if I've over poured a mold I save the drippings.  So much fun!

Here is a picture of my many different pieces.

I found some white that was created by mixing the Amazing Casting Resin Part A and B.  There are some splotches of other stuff, I think a bit of glitter, but that won't hinder this project.

If the layer of resin is thin you can cut it with an ordinary pair of scissors.
I cut out a square shape and rounded the corners.  I used the other side of the glittery piece.

Using an ordinary pencil I drew (doodled) directly on my resin piece.
See the colors on the piece, doesn't matter?

Then I grabbed my Sharpies to add some color ...

and colored my piece.  Cute, huh?

Now I mixed up my Amazing Clear Cast Resin and let it sit for a couple minutes to get all the air bubbles out.  Don't worry about getting them ALL out.

Then I placed my resin piece onto my homemade doming board and
poured the Amazing Clear Cast resin over the top and domed it.
If you still have air bubbles, you can use your heat gun or blow on them to pop them.

Now I let that set up for a couple of hours.  Depending on the humidity and the depth of the resin,  it can take anywhere from 2 to 24 hours to set up.

Next step is to create my magnets.

Once my resin pieces were set up, I recycled (love recycling)
an old magnet sheet by tracing my resin piece and cutting it out.

I applied a bit of E6000 to the back of my resin piece and a bit to my magnets and pressed them together.
I let them set up for about 4 hours before putting them onto my refrigerator.

Pretty cool huh?

Here is a nice closeup shot of the better of the two magnets.

You can see that the square magnet I created ran a bit.  I didn't let the sharpie dry completely.  You can always heat set your piece before adding your Amazing Clear Cast Resin.  The rectangle magnet turned our perfect though.  I just love my Picasso imitations!

I hope you will hop on over to Anything But a Card and join in on our challenge.  There are only 3 rules.

1.  Make ANYTHING BUT A CARD
2.  Use the theme "MASTERS"
3.  Most important HAVE FUN!

Until next time, have a great day and God Bless.

"Fools Gold" at Anything but a Card Challenge 46

Good morning and happy Sunday to you all.

It's Week 3 at Anything But a Card and I'm so excited to share my project.  This month's challenge is "Fools Gold" and I've been wanting to frame a picture of my daughter and my grandbabies that we took at Easter but I just haven't found a picture frame that I really liked until ....

Well, this is what I used and created.  Please follow my tutorial

I had on hand a lightweight wooden picture frame I got at Michaels.  Some silver duct tape from the hardware store that is never ending.  Some scrap pieces of card stock left over from another project and a ruler.  You will also need acrylic paint, alcohol inks and double sided tape.

First I painted the edges of my picture frame in black.  No need to paint the entire thing as it will be covered.  While that was drying ...

... I taped the silver duct tape to my card stock and ran it through my cuddlebug.  I used 2 different folders and because the pieces are larger than my cuddle bug folders I ran it through in one direction and flipped it and ran it through again.  With the folders I used there is no need for precision.

I glued the pieces onto my picture frame with double sided tape.  (sorry for the glare)

See the awesome detail

Then I went over the top with Gold Alcohol ink.

I wanted to make it look somewhat antiquey so I painted black acrylic paint over the top and wiped it off with a dry rag.

Here is a closeup

You can find these kind of frames using real metal but
I prefer the faux metal look and it so LIGHT WEIGHT.
My frame is ready for my picture to get printed

Aren't they just so sweet?

I hope I've inspired you to create a faux metal frame and please join us over at Anything but a Card with your "Fools Gold" challenge.  Remember, there are only 3 rules.

1.  Make ANYTHING BUT A CARD
2.  Use the theme "FOOLS GOLD"
3.  Most important HAVE FUN!

Until next time, have a great day and God Bless.

Anything But a Card challenge #45 "Green with Envy"

Good morning and happy Sunday to you.  It's the third Sunday of the month and you know what that means. Yup, another Anything But a Card Challenge #45 and this month our challenge is using GREEN!  I knew exactly what I wanted to do since St. Patty's day is just around the corner.  What a coincidence that this month's theme is wrapped in GREEN, lol!  So let's get started:

A couple of years ago I made a mold using my Amazing Casting Products of a horseshoe I cut out in chipboard using my cricut a couple of times and glued them together.  It's so easy when you don't have the exact item to create.

I glued 3 pieces together to give it some thickness.

And pierced holes on either side of the horseshoe.

Then I mixed up my Amazing Mold Putty (you can go HERE and see how to mix it up)
and pushed my chipboard horseshoe into it.
I like to use up any space to mold something else too.  NO wasting that precious mold putty.

I used my Amazing Casting Resin with the Alumilite Silver Metallic powder to create this beauty.
You can view a tutorial HERE on how to prepare it.
Then I glued some silver rhinestones onto it with my E6000

Love it, but now you are wondering where the GREEN comes in?
Well, this was a necklace I made a couple of years ago and ...

this is what I made for this challenge using some of the steps above.  Since I already had the mold (love how they hold up for years) I just casted it in the Amazing Casting Resin which when it cures dries WHITE, but I added the green rhinestones and not as many as the original piece.  Using the Amazing Clear Cast I  painted that over the entire piece making sure those rhinestones would not pop off and also to give it a nice shine.
I then added a gold chain and now I am ready to make some luck on St. Patty's Day!

Thanks for stopping over and checking out my "GREEN" challenge at Anything but a Card and I hope you will play along.  Remember, the rules are simple
2.  Show off your GREEN
3.  Have FUN!

Until next time, have a great day and God Bless.

Wood Transfer Anything But a Card Challenge "Friendship"

Good morning peeps,

today is the last week of our challenge over at Anything but a Card which is all about "Friendship" this month.  I love this challenge because I am so blessed to have 3 wonderful friends that I hang out with each week.  We throw darts together once a week on a Thursday night.  We do some tournaments together and we have been doing this on and off for about 10 years.  I just so love my dart girls!  Back in January we threw our annual Sno-Throw tournament and took 2nd place, two years in a row now!  We have a great time throwing together and always seem to be just a shy out of first place.  We started our tournament on Friday and ended up being done on Sunday afternoon.  It takes a lot out of you at times, but we continue to go at it hard and heavy each time.  Taking 2nd place got us a plaque for our bar that sponsors us and cash!

First place gets you the same thing, only you also get individual plaques and a jacket!  Now I cannot sew worth a darn so I can't make us jackets, but I can make individual plaques and here's how I did it:

I started out with our picture that was taken by the tournament director.  I printed it out 4 times in mirror image.  Why you ask?  Because I am going to transfer these pictures onto pieces of wood and there is writing on the picture.  See ...

I purchased some Liquitex from Hobby Lobby.  It costs about $15 dollars but with my Hobby Lobby 40% off coupon I saved about $6 and it will last a long, long time.

Spread your Liquitex evenly onto your piece of wood.  Not too thick and not too thin.  I got these pieces of wood in a pack also at Hobby Lobby.  They measure 4 x 4 and are perfect for this project.

Make sure you use a brayer and evenly spread your image face down onto the piece of wood.
Making sure to get any air bubbles out and no visible creases.

Now I let that sit overnight because I wanted to make absolute sure it transferred perfectly.

The next day I took a damp sponge with a soft side and a scrubby side and rubbed the paper backing off very carefully.  Make sure to damped the area real good at first and take the scrubby side and carefully rub over the image.  This takes a bit of time and trial and error, do NOT rub too hard as you will rub off the image also.  Then take the soft side and go over it until you do not see anymore "white" from the paper.  I did rub a bit too hard on the first one thus I am giving myself the "too hard" rubbed plaque.
You may need to experiment with how hard to rub.

I also stamped the 2015 onto the image before I painted the edges with black acrylic paint and also a bit around the edges.  Then I sealed them with Mod Podge and let that also sit overnight.  I probably didn't need to wait that long, but I wanted to make sure!

Then I glued a pop top to the back of the wooden plaque (always reuse if you don't recycle).

And there we have our own individual plaques.  I kinda like ours better since our picture commemorates our achievement and not just a plaque itself!  LOL

I'm so in love with this technique and cannot wait to try something else.

I hope you've enjoyed my tutorial today and if you want to join us over at ABAC for our "Friendship" challenge, head on over HERE to link up.

Remember you can link up any project as long as it:

ISN'T a CARD
Has something to do with "FRIENDSHIP"
and
YOU are having FUN doing it!

Celestial Challenge #42 Week 3, Anything But a Card

Good morning and happy Sunday to you all.  It's that time again when I am showing you something I created for Anything But a Card.  If you haven't heard of us, you guessed it ... it's a challenge blog and we make ANYTHING but a CARD.  So come follow me through my tutorial for this month's theme "Celestial"  There were so many different ideas I kept coming up with until one evening while Christmas shopping with hubby I came across this.  We were at Target and I found this Luminary in the "Dollar" section.  Well, it wasn't $1, but $3 wasn't bad either.

but it was rather plain ... so ...
to the trusty Cricut we go and cut a Star Border out from the Scrapping Table.  You can find her here on Facebook.  I have been a loyal fan of Michelle's for a very long time and I do believe I own every one of her Svg files.  She went off the grid for awhile but I do see she is back and has even re-released some of her older files.  They are all FREE!  If you are looking for any svg files, she has plenty and make sure to tell her I sent you.  I do believe she will also be putting out some NEW files in 2015.
So anyway, I cut that out on some silver vinyl and attached it to my luminary.
I needed some bling, so in shopping my stash I found ALL of these awesome stars.  Huh, who knew?  I make my own glue dots, because I'm very frugal that way.  Just purchase some Alene's Tack It Over and Over glue, use some backing from used up vinyl projects or in this case, my backing from my ATG tape.  You need to let the glue dots set up for a couple of hours for sure.  I usually make about 5 sheets at a time.  Press your stars onto the glue dots and press them on your project ... that simple!
And now I have a Starry Night Light sitting on my headboard.
Love it!

I hope I've inspired you to create something for our challenge over at Anything But a Card and hope to see you link up with us.  Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think of my Starry Night Light and hope to see you again soon.

As always, have a great day and God Bless!

Anything But a Card Week 3 Autumn Magic/Spring Wonder Challenge 40

Good morning

My Post is late because I wasn't feeling well the last couple of days, but I assure you I forced myself up this morning to finish editing my pictures and blog my post.  Over at Anything But a Card we are at Week 3 of our "Autumn Magic/Spring Wonder" Challenge No. 40.

My best friend's favorite holiday is Halloween and every year I make something for her house.  I think she still likes me making stuff for her???  Maybe I should ask her, but then again, whenever I go over to her house she still has my "creations" on display!

This year I've seen so many bottle and yarn creations it's addicting.  I've pinned a gazillion things and knew I wanted to create a few.  Working for a bar really helps get unique shaped bottles also.  My boss gets a kick out of me coming in and putting my name on the bottle.  She knows that when they are empty to keep them for me.

This is the bottle I had my eyes on for awhile.

and with some orange yarn I bought at my local thrift store, some fake leaves, pipecleaners, google eyes, and black scrapbook paper I created her a fabulous pumpkin vase.

I think he even looks good sitting in my living room.

I hope you will jump over to the blog and link up with us.  Please do us the favor and include this link in your post! Anything But a Card Challenges No. 40 "Autumn Magic/Spring Wonder"
