Frog Dog Day 3 Time to Create Clock

Good morning crafters and welcome to day 3 of my Frog Dog Studio creations.
If you missed any of the posts just keep scrolling down.
All this week I will be featuring parts and pieces from this month's Frog Dog Studio kit.  We partnered up with them this month and as one of the designers over at Amazing Mold Putty I got this month's kit about 2 weeks ago and have been dying to show you what I've made.
Here is the kit
The Frog Dog Studio April Mixed Media Kit includes:
(1) **Alumidust Powder - Red Plum; (1) StazOn Midi Ink pad - Claret; (1) StazOn Midi Ink pad - Blue Hawaii; (1) iZink Pigment Ink bottle - Gold; (1) Stampendous Mica Fragments Jar, Pearlized; (1) Dusty Attic Chipboard set - Birds; (1) Stampendous Mini Clipboard Canvas pack; (1) Set Canvas Mini's - Canvas Corp; (3) Sheets of Decopatch Tissue Paper; and (16) Tim Holtz Clear Fragments (random sizes/shapes). ** Alumidust is one of the many additives from the Alumilite Corporation.

and also the add on kit
The Frog Dog Studio  April Add-On Kit includes:
(1) Amazing Clear Cast Resin – 16 Fluid Oz Box; (1) Amazing Mold Putty – 2/3 lb Box; (25) 1 oz Measuring Cups; and (50) Wooden Stir Sticks. Valued at over $47

So let's get started with today's project.  I've had this clock in my "need to redo" stash for a long time.  I initially bought it at a thrift store or garage sale because I thought I could do something with it for my granddaughters.  Ultimately when I got it home I realized that the clock mechanism was broke.  That's probably why I got it for .25 cents.  Either way, I put it in my "need to redo" stash and forgot about it until a couple of weeks ago when I was CLEANING my craft room.  It really needed it too.  I had also just gotten my Frog Dog Studio kit and a light bulb went off.  The pink of the clock struck an idea to use the beautiful bird of paradise paper.  I LOVE IT!
I popped the acrylic lid off and tried prying the paper off.
Needless to say they used more glue than I have in my craft room, LOL.
Unfortunately I had to destroy it.
I measured the clock and using my cricut I cut a white piece of cardstock to fit inside my clock perfectly.
I laid the piece of cardstock inside my clock and with a pencil circled the inner circle so I could reattach the clock mechanisms, even though they don't work.
and cut it out.
I cut my paper using the circle as my template and mod podged it to it.
Then I pulled out my Mica fragments that come with the kit.  I have NEVER seen or used these before and had no idea what to do with them.  I had to google them and got a few awesome ideas on how to use them.  I have found a new favorite product for sure.  Being on a design team definitely has enabled me to purchase things I would never have thought of or known what to do with.  I will have to get some more of these as I can see me coloring them in all sorts of beautiful colors as you will see in the next couple of pictures.
I have "dyed" a lot of things with alcohol inks and dying these fragments works fabulous.  I actually keep my little baggie with my alcohol ink because I use it over and over.
I've dyed pearls, beads and all sorts of small items.
Just put a few of your fragments into the baggie and add 3-4 drops of the alcohol ink.  Shake it up and within seconds you have colored fragments.
Look how beautiful they are!
and here is what I did with them.  I mixed both the "colored" fragments with the silver ones and then ...
...I used my Alene's paperglaze and painted onto the outside of my clock and dabbed a few of these fragments onto it.  I used to do a lot of mosaic work and this kinda reminded me of that.
Now because the clock mechanism didn't work anymore I decided to take it apart (also because the "purple" hands didn't work with the color palette) and make a mold of the clock arms using my Amazing Mold Putty.  Just mix your putty and press your pieces into it.  If you have not seen how to make a mold click here and you can see a video of how it works.

Then I pulled my Bright Blue Alumidust out and mixed it with Part A of the Amazing Clear Cast Resin.
Then I mixed Part A with Part B and mixed and poured my mold.
I thought for sure I had taken a picture of that, but when editing my pics it was not there???
I also used the "little clipboards" that came with the kit (again no pictures???  I am seriously wondering if I lost some pics somehow because I'm pretty good at taking pictures, too many at times) and painted them with the Pigment Izink in gold that comes with your kit and brushed some of the Bright Blue, Silver and a bit Cotton Candy Alumidust in the corners and set it with my heatgun.
I added some clear/black letters to the clipboards and added a few silver flat backs onto the clipboards and hot glued them to the frame of the clock.
See my "almost clear" bright blue hands?  They match perfect for this project.
I did keep the pink second hand because that did fit the color scheme.

and now I have a clock that tells me it's "Time to Create"  ALL THE TIME!

I hope I've inspired you to make something out of your "need to redo" stash if you have one using the products I've talked about today.  You can find everything by following the links above.  I hope you will come back tomorrow for another project I made using more of the Frog Dog Studio pieces from the April kit and of course my Amazing Crafting Products.  Please make sure to check out ALL the posts this month over at the Amazing Mold Putty Blog.  You are in for a treat with all the designers.

As always, have a great day and God Bless.

Frog Dog Day 2 Resin Covered Pictures

Good morning crafters and welcome to day 2 (really 3) of my posts for Frog Dog Studios.  We, over at Amazing Crafting Products have teamed up with Frog Dog to show you Aprils kit and to inspire you on how to get as many uses of out the kit as possible.  Well, I've taken on that challenge ...

In your kit you would receive this:

The Frog Dog Studio April Mixed Media Kit includes:
(1) **Alumidust Powder - Red Plum; (1) StazOn Midi Ink pad - Claret; (1) StazOn Midi Ink pad - Blue Hawaii; (1) iZink Pigment Ink bottle - Gold; (1) Stampendous Mica Fragments Jar, Pearlized; (1) Dusty Attic Chipboard set - Birds; (1) Stampendous Mini Clipboard Canvas pack; (1) Set Canvas Mini's - Canvas Corp; (3) Sheets of Decopatch Tissue Paper; and (16) Tim Holtz Clear Fragments (random sizes/shapes). ** Alumidust is one of the many additives from the Alumilite Corporation.

And of course you would want to purchase the add-on kit!

The Frog Dog Studio  April Add-On Kit includes:
(1) Amazing Clear Cast Resin – 16 Fluid Oz Box; (1) Amazing Mold Putty – 2/3 lb Box; (25) 1 oz Measuring Cups; and (50) Wooden Stir Sticks. Valued at over $47

and today I am showing you to how to domb your pictures with Amazing Clear Cast and how to display them.

When you purchase the add on kit you will receive the Amazing Clear Cast.  It takes a bit longer to set up (24 hours or so), but it gives you a clean clear coating.  Depending how thick or thin you apply it the glass look is amazing.  I did not have a dome board, but I have made my own.  You can go HERE and see how I made it and see the instructions for the tutorial.
Just mix part A to part B of the clear cast and stir gently.  If I am doming something I actually let it set up a bit to get most of the air bubbles out before applying it to my item I am doming.
Gently pour it over the items you want domed and then I use my heat gun to "pop" all the air bubbles.  This will set up in about 24 hours.  Make sure you place something over your dome board so that no dust particles attach themselves to the resin.
ALSO, very IMPORTANT, make sure you set you dome board somewhere completely flat.
The resin will level itself out and if it is not level it will pool to one side.
here is what the backside of your piece will look like
and here is the front.  It's hard to photograph, but there is a raised glass like look to it.
Now I quickly painted the edges of a piece of wood I had laying around
and mod podged it to lay my paper onto.
I also glued a picture hanger onto the backside.
I used the same paper for the larger clipboard that comes with the kit and using black/clear stickers I added the kids' names.  See these tiny tags?  Yup you guessed it, I got a variety of these acrylic tags in the kit but I had to reproduce them and poured 2 with clear cast and 1 with casting resin.  I love the black and white look.  I also tied a ribbon and bow to the top of the clipboard.

Now, in the kit there were these 3 canvas circles.  Perfect since I have three grandkids.  I hot glued the domed pictures of the kids onto the canvas circles and hot glued them onto the "frame".  Now the nice things about displaying pictures like this is you do NOT need a glass over the frame.  Your pictures are protected with the resin and you can just wipe them off if they get dusty.
and here is my finished board.  I tried to take the picture with a bit of glare on them so you can tell that it has that domed look to it.  LOVE IT!  But unfortunately I did NOT make this for myself.  This will be going to a special person soon!

I hope I've inspired you to make your own photo/memory board using the products I've talked about today.

All this week I will be featuring parts and pieces from this month's Frog Dog Studio kit.  We partnered up with them this month and as one of the designers over at Amazing Mold Putty I got this month's kit about 2 weeks ago and have been dying to show you what I've made.

and also the add on kit
The Frog Dog Studio  April Add-On Kit includes:
(1) Amazing Clear Cast Resin – 16 Fluid Oz Box; (1) Amazing Mold Putty – 2/3 lb Box; (25) 1 oz Measuring Cups; and (50) Wooden Stir Sticks. Valued at over $47

Today's post follows a little of yesterdays.  This paper we got in the kit is FABULOUS.
It is so paper thin and almost transparent like.  I used the red and gold paper on yesterday's post and had some that I wanted to use for today's post.  So let's get started...
I mixed my Amazing Casting Resin Part A with the Dark Red Alumidust and made sure it was mixed well.  Then I mixed Part B into part A and made sure that was mixed up well.
You should mix for a couple of minutes to make sure you have no swirls.
The mixture should almost be clear, transparent with the alumidust.  Then pour your resin into your mold and let it cure.  This should take about 10 - 15 minutes.
While my resin was curing I went over to the paper part.  I had made a clear resin piece of this mold a while back and use it for this purpose.  To find which piece of the paper will fit perfect for my colored piece.  The reason I molded the piece with the Dark Red Alumidust is because as I said earlier, the paper is almost transparent, and I didn't know what the paper would do over the stark white that the Amazing Casting Resin is ones it has cured fully.
I did cut the piece a bit bigger than my clear piece just to be sure it will cover completely.
My mold, my molded piece and my cutout of the paper.
Now, the molded piece is still somewhat pliable so I decided to punch my holes before it got too hard.  My crop o dial works perfectly for this.  Do you have an idea of where I am going with this?
Next I decided to mod podge the paper to the molded resin piece.
Working from center to outer edge is best.
Then I trimmed it with my scissors.  Now do you see where I am going with this?
My edge was fine, but I wanted to make it pop a bit.
I used the Pigment Izink in gold that came with the kit to edge it.

By this time my piece had hardened to it fullest.  A while back I accidentally found that if you use your heat gun on the piece it will become warm and pliable again.
DO NOT overheat, just a couple of seconds does it.

Now I bent my shape and inserted my "hair skewer".  I have no idea what to call this thing.

Now the look is great, but I did want it to be shiny.
Pulling out my Amazing Clear Cast Resin I decided to paint on it.

You might want to use an old paint brush, but if you take care and wash your paintbrush immediately with warm soapy water after using it with the clear cast you can save it from getting ruined.  This is a super old paint brush, but I purposely use it ONLY for my clear cast resin, in case I forget to wash it completely I won't ruin a good brush.  So far I have had no troubles with it and have used this brush numerous times.

Then I just painted right on the piece.  You want to set it somewhere and keep moving it around ever so often.  The clear cast will drip, but it will level off after a few minutes and give you a perfect glassy luster.

And here is my finished "hair piece"

I think it turned out lovely!  This paper is gorgeous!

I hope I've inspired you to make your own hair jewelry using the products I've talked about today.
