Recycled Ruler Jar

Good morning

I have a quick recycle post today.  As most of you know, I try to recycle/upcycle as much as possible.  My craftroom is so full right now and I am trying to organize it a bit but I need containers to store my stuff in.  I have gone and looked at all the neat baskets at walmart, target, even the dollar store, but hate spending money on such stuff.  I would rather use my money on other things, like more craft items...lol.  Anyway, I have a million empty jars in my recycle room and so I pulled one out.  Cleaned off the label with hot water and used my goo gone to get the little bit of glue residue off.
Probably wouldn't have needed to do this, but remember, I never know where my project is going to lead.  Once it was nice and clean, I took some used tissue paper from a gift I had gotten some time ago, (recycle) and mod podged the entire jar and this is what it became:
I downloaded an image of a wooden ruler and in PSE I added my Brenda's Rulers, cut it to fit around my jar

and now I have a place to put all my rulers and it didn't cost me a dime.  Love it...
as you can see in the background I have a few more things I want to upcycle, so stay tuned to see what else I am going to do with containers or jars.

As always have a great day and God Bless.

Wine coaster

Good morning,

I just wanted to show you a quick coaster idea.  I love to recycle and today I made a coaster for me.  Yes, I made something for myself for a change.  I took an old scratched cd that was in my "recycle to be used" box and mod podged some purple paper that I got from the Robin's Nest.  Since I've been on their design team I can honestly say I have so fallen in love with her papers.  This paper is called Plum Classic Glitter cardstock.
It so reminds me of a grape...you'll find out in a bit.  It's got bits of glitter embedded in the paper and is so sparkly cute.  Go check out all her papers, I'm sure you will find something you can't live without.
I cut a circle of the exact same size as the cd, see the glittery paper?
If you are on facebook I'm sure you've seen all these fun and crazy sayings.  My daughter actually added this one to my timeline because I'm a wine fanatic and that's when I knew I wanted to make something with the picture.  Now you understand what I meant about the paper looking like a grape?
So I burnt the edges of the picture a bit to make it look old (I remember doing this in with my Holly Hobby pictures in middle school).  Boy does that age me or what?
Then I mod podged the papers to the cd, inked the edges of the cd and a bit around the picture again.  Sealed it really well with the mod podge again and
now I have my very own wine glass coaster.  What do you think?  I'm loving it for sure.  I did paint the underside of the cd and added some felt "feet" so as not to scratch my wood furniture.  Now I just wish I had some time off to relax with my glass of wine and new coaster, but I'm sure I will fit a glass of wine in somewhere soon.

As always, have a great day and God Bless.

Connie's Necklace

Good morning and thanks for stopping by.  I haven't been blogging too much lately, but that doesn't mean I haven't been creating. I've got so much stuff to show, but seriously blogging takes way more time than I have.  Today I have a necklace to show that I made for a co worker's birthday last month.  I've been making a lot of jewelry lately and plan on opening my etsy store soon.  Let me know if there is anything you would like to see.
The stone was clear and I used alcohol inks to change it to purple, her favorite color.  I sealed it with some clear finger nail polish.
She really loved it and so did I.  In fact she just wore it this last weekend.  It really makes you feel special when you see something you've made being used or worn.
Thanks for taking a peak and see you in a couple of days.
As always, have a great day and god bless.

Snowflake magnets

Good morning, and welcome to another Creative Paperclay® project.  I wanted to show you another project I made with all those embossed snowflakes and some others.  Remember, you can emboss your paperclay while it's still wet and using a cuddlebug folder or anything with texture just adds element to your project.  I love doing this.  Click on the link above if you don't remember the post or want to see it for the first time.  So let's get started:
After my snowflakes and other cookie cutter cut outs were completely dry, I painted them with acrylic paints and inked around the edges to give them dimension.  I do that allot.
See how using different embossing folders gives them different looks.  I love this technique.
So I wanted to turn them into memo holders...
So I used Mod Podge and added some papers to the front of the clothespins.  Adding a bit of glitter here and there to make them sparkle and another layer of Mod Podge to seal them well.
Aren't these cute?
Now I wanted to turn them into refrigerator magnets...so off to my "hoarding" bin and there I found some old 2012 calendar magnets.  Yes, I keep "EVERYTHING"
I cut them into strips that are the same width as the clothespins and glued them to the backside of them.
Now they can hang on your file cabinet (like mine) or the
refrigerator (like my mom did) to keep notes or cards or whatever your heart desires.
These turned out so cute.  I wanted to make them for my mom, my dad's girlfriend and MIL
but also wanted to package them up cutely...SO
I used bakers paper to cut the bags from my TBBM cricut cartridge
scored them.
glued them.
folded them.
the bottom is also glued, but somewhat fragile if you were to put anything heavy into it, so...
I just cut a piece of cardboard to fit the bottom of the bag and used an adhesive runner
placed it into the bottom of the bag
my hand didn't fit, so I used my scissor to make sure it fit snuggly and...
here they are packaged for gift giving.  I cut some tags using up most of my Christmas paper scraps, punched holes at the top and used some ribbon to close them up.  I gave them to my mom, my dad's girlfriend and MIL and they loved them.

I hope I've given you some more ideas for using your Creative Paperclay® and hope to see you here again in a month.  As always, have a great day and God Bless.

Treasures with the Robin's Nest

Good morning Brenda here and welcome to my first project(s) for the Robin's Nest. I'm so excited to be working with them. I cannot tell you how much fun I've had with all her papers and fun embellishments. Today I will be showing you how to alter some very inexpensive (or even free) things. We were suppose to use a few "card kits" that she has and well and you can find them here...this is what I came up with. (Be prepared to sit a while, large post and lots of pictures)

This is the first card kit I received. Now to me while looking at this kit I thought of Valentine's Day for sure. I knew I had just the right project for this special event.
Last year, after Valentine's Day I bought one of these
cute little mailboxes on clearance.
I think I paid a quarter for it.
Everyone has seen these and a lot of you have altered them,
and here is my way of doing it.
I took the lid off and traced around it and cut it out
twice for the front and back since they are identical.
Then I popped the flag off, cuz I could not figure out
how to keep it attached and put the paper on.
I embellished the paper with the "dew drops" and also
cut a tiny heart out of the paper for it's center.
I used another clear dew drop for the "hinge" for the flag.
I also used some ribbon I had on hand that matched the paper
perfectly and glued it around the edges of the mailbox
and added more dew drops around the front rim.
I used the hugs and kisses sticker and attached it to
some of the remaining card stock, inked around the
edges and pop dotted it on the front cover.
Isn't this just the cutest? I love the brown and pinks together.
I plan on filling it with "hugs and kisses" and giving
it to my granddaughter for Valentine's Day.

For the next project I made myself a jewelry treasure holder...
This last summer we went on our family vacation and while on vacation we went antiquing. I love finding treasures as is or to alter. Hubby came upon these cigar boxes from Germany at that. I made an offer on all of them and got them for dirt cheap. I am keeping one as is, but the others I will alter. This is what I made with the first one:

Here is the box with some computer paper wrapped around the lid so that I can get a perfect fit.
Then I cut it out
and laid it on the backside of my paper
This is the tag kit I received from the The Robins Nest for this project

Very ROYAL and I love it
I covered the outside and inside with the different papers
also added a velcro to the top and bottom
I added a paperclay lock and dew drops all around the front
and the Royal tag to the top with a paperclay key and crown.
I also added a dew drop to both the tag crown and the paperclay one.
and since I had plenty of papers and other embellishments left from this paper card kit I wanted to alter one more thing, this is the one project I am most proud of:
I was putting my makeup on one morning and used up most of my creamy eyeshadow from Avon. I love this product and was saddened that I was out. Instead of throwing the container away I knew I could "make" something with it. This is what I looked like before
eyeshadows
cleaned out
I took the sparkly paper from the Robin's Nest
and mod podged the paper to the eye shadow kit
I added another layer of mod podge to the top
while that was drying, I added 3 of the fleur de lis stickers
where the eye shadow was and some of the sticker paper inside where the eye shadow brush would have been.
and added another layer of mod podge to make sure it was all sealed

Then I added my initials from the Glittery Letter pack. Love these letters.
and here is the top with some added dew drops.
Now, what do you think I turned this into?
I could put my ibuprofen in it OR
I turned it into a personalized sewing kit.
Now I have to say this is definitely my favorite project.
I loved making them all, but the use of this one is my favorite.
So I hope I've inspired you to turn something old
into something new and useful.
Head on over to the Robin's Nest and check out
all the fun papers and kits they have.
I know I am absolutely in love with all of it.
